Gypsy music by Gypsy Root at Gypsy Hill Park

Gypsy music gets off to a great start this Thursday, with some wonderful music at Gypsy Hill Park, by the group, The Gypsy Roots. Thomas Wakefield, who plays the guitar, heads the acoustic outfit of this gypsy music band. He is accompanied by Ruster Farmer, on the bass, Allen Cole on the clarinets and James Beard on the guitar.
Wakefield who is also an Anthropologist by profession, remarks that by virtue of his profession, he is interested in cultures and tribes, and the venue Gypsy Hill Park, had a history, which somewhat matched the tradition and background, of their gypsy music influences.
Their major influence in gypsy music was that of Django Reinhardt, who was a famous guitarist in Paris in the 1920's and 30's, and was well known in this genre. He improvised the form of jazz which is associated with gypsy music pioneered by him. The Gypsy Roots is much influenced by this form of jazz associated with Reinhardt.
